My Fall Wardrobe Challange

As the summer ends and fall approaches I can’t help but want a whole new wardrobe. I am not a very materialistic person. My style is very casual, sometimes sexy, and always simple but I still like to buy new cloths every September. With two teenage boys however, the thought of purchasing new work and weekend cloths for me is very stressful. They are still growing rapidly and I have learned that when your kids are dressed nice, teachers treat them better. Also appearance is very important to teens and I want my sons to look great and feel good about themselves at school. As those of you whom have boys know, they tear through shoes and pants quickly and a couple nights of great sleep can result in overnight increases in height. And while my oldest son LOVES to hang on to and continue to wear his favorite tees, I am not in love with the idea of my teenage son wearing crop tops! So while I would love to go out and buy some great NEW fall pieces, I must set aside as much money as I can for my sons.
All of this “wanting” leaves me with a great Idea! I have wanted to be greener for a while. I also want to save some money but still want to love the cloths I wear, look professional at work and HOT on the weekends. So I have decided to do a 45 day Fall Wardrobe Challenge. Here’s the plan:
1)      USE EXSITING CLOTHS-Repair, Reuse or Repurpose what I have
2)      Buy ONLY shoes new NO CLOTHS (I need shoes and I don’t want to get those second hand)
3)      Materials needed to repair and update cloths, such as new zippers & buttons, CAN be purchased
4)      Make cloths out of used material found, donated or purchased at garage sales
5)      Swap cloths with my Friends!!!
This is all I can think of at the moment. I will create a limit for myself on the garage sale purchases and material expenses. During my 45 day challenge I will keep track of the cost of each project and purchase. I will start on September 1, 2011.
There is one more MAJOR step I will take and that is to drop 10-15lbs so I can fit into the BOXES of unused cloths is my garage. That’s two more huge boxes of cloths to have some fun with!!!
This post is mainly for me because if I write it and post it, I have to follow through. But if anyone else wants to join me - Comment below. PLEASE DO, I THINK THIS WILL BE VERY FUN!!

Three is Perfect for ME!!!

Really it is!!! You would think that after 14 years of raising two sons by myself people would stop asking me things like; "Are you EVER going to get remarried?" "Don't you want more kids?" "Don't you get lonely?" "Don't you want to "you know" again?' " You’re pretty cute, nice, fun insert other complementary words here, why are you still single?" I think this last one may be implying that there must be something WRONG with me but I will assume people just think I am so awesome that they are amazed I haven't been snatched up. I could go on forever with the enormous list of questions people ask me, all relating to my choice to be single. Don't get me wrong, I am finally open to the idea of dating someone great IF that is what God has in store for me but he would have to be pretty freaking amazing!!!! Why? Because I LOVE my little family of three.  God blessed me with two amazi...

Social Media: Put yourself out there

It feels like social media has always been a part of my life. I may not manage it well, but I am connected EVERYDAY to EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. Like many others, I was very reluctant at first to join the social media craze. At 29, I felt like I was too old to join MySpace, is it still around? Does anyone even remember MySpace?   Anyways, back to how my social media addiction began. I have a few younger cousins, who were in college at the time that pushed me into joining. I reluctantly complied; it was the only way I could keep in touch with them. I had no choice but to accept that the days of calling your loved ones on the phone or sending thoughtful letters were long gone. I really didn’t want to lose contact with my little cousins who are like sisters to me. After about a year of contemplation, I reluctantly joined. At first, I did not really like it.   It felt weird and kind of silly but I did like being able to find music and I loved all the cute page layouts. ...

Weight-Loss Challenge: Week One Update

The first week of my weight-loss challenge is over! I weighed in this morning and lost a total of 4.2 lbs. I am loving the myfitnesspal app. At first I was not so sure about it because I have used other apps with way more options but I didn’t really use them consistently. This is probably because they had so many options. Myfitness pal is simple to use in every way. I logged in daily and having the phone app is really helpful. I ALWAYS have my phone on me which means no writing things down then having to remember to add it all up later. Every day was different. Some days it was easy to stay within my calorie limit and others it was really hard! Knowing that someone was going to see how I did each day gave me that little extra incentive to stay on track. There were a few days where I logged my food and was in the red. So, I exercised until I was back in the green.   This helped me balance out my day but I still felt kind of crappy and bloated after making poor food...
